Description
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) — Melanocortin Receptor Agonist
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide that acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors. It is supplied for in vitro laboratory research only.
Research context
Preclinical and in vitro literature has examined bremelanotide in receptor-binding assays targeting the melanocortin-3 (MC3R) and melanocortin-4 (MC4R) receptor subtypes, including studies of G-protein coupled receptor signalling and downstream cyclic AMP pathway activation in transfected cell lines. Central nervous system receptor-distribution studies have also used this compound to characterise melanocortin receptor pharmacology. Comparative pharmacology studies have further examined its receptor-binding selectivity relative to other melanocortin receptor agonists within in vitro assay panels.
