Description
ARA-290 (Cibinetide) — Erythropoietin-Derived Undecapeptide
ARA-290, also known as Cibinetide, is an 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the three-dimensional structure of erythropoietin, supplied for in vitro laboratory research only.
Research context
Preclinical literature has examined ARA-290 as a selective ligand of the heteromeric erythropoietin receptor/CD131 complex — referred to in the literature as the innate repair receptor (IRR) — which is structurally and functionally distinct from the homodimeric erythropoietin receptor responsible for erythropoiesis. Investigators use it in cell-based receptor-binding assays and in vitro models of small-fibre neuronal signalling and cytokine-pathway modulation, frequently applying competitive radioligand-binding assays to distinguish IRR-selective activity from classical erythropoietin-receptor activation. Reported study designs include electrophysiological recordings of peripheral sensory-neuron cultures and gene-expression analyses of cytokine-signalling intermediates in immune and neuronal cell lines. As the lead compound in a broader class of erythropoietin-derived, non-erythropoietic peptide fragments, ARA-290 is also referenced in comparative receptor-pharmacology literature examining structure-activity relationships across EPO-derived helix-B fragment analogues.
