SS-31 (elamipretide) is a cell-permeable, mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide. It is supplied for in vitro laboratory research only.

Research context

Preclinical literature has examined SS-31 for its interaction with cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane and its effect on mitochondrial membrane potential. Investigators have studied its role in electron transport chain complex stabilization and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in bioenergetic assay models. Model systems include isolated mitochondria and cultured cell lines used to measure ATP synthesis and oxidative phosphorylation efficiency.
