Description
ACTH (1-39) — 39-Amino-Acid Melanocortin (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone)
ACTH (1-39), adrenocorticotropic hormone, is the full-length 39-amino-acid melanocortin produced by the anterior pituitary. It is supplied for in vitro laboratory research only.
Research context
Preclinical literature has examined ACTH (1-39) for its activation of the melanocortin 2 receptor (MC2R) and induction of steroidogenesis in adrenocortical cell models. Investigators have studied its regulation of the steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein and associated enzymatic cascades within the mitochondrial membrane. Model systems also include studies of its interaction with other melanocortin receptor subtypes (MC1R-MC5R) in cultured cell lines, examining lipid-metabolism and pigmentation-pathway signaling.
