Description
Glutathione — Cysteine-Glycine-Glutamate Tripeptide
Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of cysteine, glycine and glutamic acid that cycles between reduced (GSH) and oxidised (GSSG) states. It is supplied for in vitro laboratory research only.
Research context
Preclinical literature has examined glutathione in cell-culture models of redox cycling, glutathione-S-transferase enzyme activity, and conjugation reactions involved in xenobiotic clearance pathways. Mitochondrial isolate assays have also used glutathione to characterise GSH/GSSG ratio changes under oxidative-stress conditions in vitro. Chromatographic and spectrophotometric assay methods have been used to quantify intracellular GSH/GSSG ratios across these cell-culture conditions.
