Description
MOTS-c — Mitochondrial-Derived Peptide
MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA region. It is supplied for in vitro laboratory research only.
Research context
Preclinical literature has examined MOTS-c in cell culture models of AMPK-pathway activation and in glucose-uptake assay systems using skeletal-muscle-derived cell lines. Studies have also investigated mitochondrial-to-nuclear retrograde signalling as a model of cellular bioenergetic regulation. As a mitochondrial-derived peptide, it is additionally referenced in assay designs examining mitochondrial-genome-encoded signalling peptides more broadly.
